Major General "Iron Mike" O'Daniel, CG, 3rd Infantry Division, presents the Medal of Honor to Lieutenant Audie Murphy for heroism during World War II.


Audie Murphy copied from a 1945 scrapbook. German Sniper Rifle Audie brought home after service in World War II. Audie caught the sniper between the eyes and brought back rifle to Texas. His sister, 13 year old, Nadine, is in the photo with him.

Audie Murphy Breaking Earth - Film star Audie Murphy, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient in World War II and that war's most decorated soldier, still in uniform, goes at it with a vengeance as he becomes technical advisor and star of the motion picture To Hell and Back. The film is based on his autobiographical book of the same title, about his exploits in the war. Murphy digs a shell crater (above) on a battlefield at the Yakima Firing Center, where parts of the film are being made in cooperation with an entire Battalion of combat-trained soldiers from the 44th infantry Division at Fort Lewis.
