Congressional Medals of Honor Awarded by
President Jimmy Carter
Lt. Col. Matt Louis Urban, a Polish American who, along with Captain Audie Murphy, were the two most highly decorated American combat soldiers in World War II. President Jimmy Carter awarded Lt. Col. Urban the Congressional Medal of Honor on July 19, 1980 and called him "The Greatest Soldier in American History."
